Faughanvale having lost last years B final to Foreglen looked to have been in trouble at half time trailing the men from Feeny 0-09 to 0-01. However a superb second half display meant they just got the better of Banagher to win the title on a final score line of 3-06 to 0-11. Fair play to both teams for playing their parts in what was an extremely sporting and competitive final.
The A final took place on Monday night also in Owenbeg at 8pm. It was local rivals Glen and Slaughtneil who both progressed to the final unbeaten throughout. It was always going to be a tight game as both set of players gave their all to take the title home. At half time a goal separated the teams in Glen's favour. Throughout the second period of 20 minutes both teams had some fine chances but a mixture of good defending and a few nerves meant it was to be a pretty low scoring encounter with Glen holding on to win 1-08 to 0-07. I would like to congratulate both Glen and Slaughtneil clubs on what has been a remarkable season for both their underage teams, it's a testament to the excellent work their coaches are doing with their young players.
Thanks to Barrett Electrical Contracts for sponsoring this competition two years running. The hundreds of people that attended Owenbeg on Monday night just shows how popular this competition has become.
Also a word of thanks to the grounds men in Owenbeg and to all the clubs who let us use their pitches and floodlights throughout September, the facilities we have in Derry are second to none, this competition couldn't have run without your help. Finally thanks to all the new referee's we used during this competition, you done a fine job!
