Roe Valley GAA Foundation Course

On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd of January Roe Valley Leisure Centre hosted a Child Protection and the New GAA foundation coaching course for coaches. A large turn out attended the child protection; 51 coaches, then on Saturday 17 coaches completed the full course.Paul Simpson and Richard Ferris delivered the course. Thanks to Ollie Mullan and all the staff at RVLC for all their help and co-operation. Thanks to all the coaches who attended, they certainly applied themselves very well!

Glen G.A.C. Foundation Course

On Friday and Saturday Watty Grahams Glen, Maghera had a Child Protection and Foundation level Football & Hurling course delivered within their club. Emma Murray delivered the Child Protection Course on the friday night and Ben McGuckin and Clare Leahy delivered the Foundation Football and Hurling course on the Saturday. Watty Grahams now have an additional 15 coaches with Child Protection Certificates and 12 Coaches with the Foundation certification. Which will hopefully give them some new ideas and increased confidence to use in 2011. Well done to everyone involved.

Last year we had a great course a wide variety of coaches some great ideas with plenty of craic so don't miss out this time around.

It is now a legal requirement to be certified when working with youth teams and players under the age of 18. This course ensures you are!

Eoghan Rua Foundation Coaching Course

On Friday and Saturday Eoghan Rua GAC Coleraine had a child protection and foundation football & hurling course delivered within their club. Brian Smith and Ben McGuckin delivered the course. Eoghan Rua Coleraine now have twenty three additional coaches with the certification. Which will hopefully give them the confidence to get involved with teams in the future. Well done to everyone involved.

Foundation Football and Child Protection Course @ Banagher

On Friday and Saturday Banagher GAC had a child protection and foundation football/hurling course delivered within their club. Brian Smith and Richard Ferris delivered the course. Banagher now have nine additional coaches with the certification which will hopefully give them the confidence to get involved with teams in the future.

Foundation Coaching Course at St. Mary's Limavady

On Thursday 18th February 35 students from St. Mary's Limavady concluded their Foundation coaching award. Paul Simpson and Richard Ferris delivered a number of classroom based workshops with the students in the morning. Followed by some work in the gym going through the various stages and activities of the Fundamentals movements.
The new coaches worked extremely hard throughout the day and applied themselves really well. The final stage of their foundation award was a practical session on skill development and games. The coaches were assessed and given feedback and personal improvement goals. Well done to all involved. Thanks to all PE staff for their co-operation and hospitatity.

Foundation Football Course @ Roe Valley Leisure Centre, Limavady

On Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of February Roe Valley Leisure Centre hosted a Child Protection and the New GAA foundation coaching course for coaches. A large turn out attended the child protection; 55 coaches, then on Saturday 14 coaches completed the full course. Brian Smith, Emma Murray,Paul Simpson and Richard Ferris delivered the course. Foundation Course for Derry City Clubs

Derry City Council provided funding to roll out a Foundation GAA Coaching Course on Saturday past. The Course was held at Steelstown GAC, despite the terrible weather conditions 35 coaches done the course delivered by Paul Simpson and Kevin Hinphey

Coach Education Courses for April

New Foundation GAA Course @ Slaughtneil – Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April
Slaughtneil club have organised this Foundation course for their own football, hurling and camogie members. If you have coaches within your club who would like to be a guest on this course send an email to ccollins@derry.gaa.ie The price of the course is £25 per person. If your club has over 10 coaches who would like to achieve this NGB it may be beneficial to organise a Foundation Course within your club.

Lucozade Sport Seminar – “Lifestyle: Getting the balance right” – Wednesday 8th April @ Owenbeg 7.30pm
Michael Toland will deliver this Lucozade Sport Coaching Seminar. This seminar will highlight a number of major lifestyle issues that will influence athletic performance. If the athlete is to ensure that their natural ability is maximised, every aspect of their lifestyle must be balanced.
The guidelines provided throughout this seminar will help in this regard. The three main area’s that will be discussed will be Exercise and Health, Rest and Recovery and Sleep.
This Course is open to everyone free of charge. Whether you’re working with Underage or seniors players there will be plenty of relevant information for you to take from this seminar

Hurling / Camogie Nursery Programme – Thursday 16th April @ Swatragh GAC 7.30pm
Kevin Kelly will deliver this indoor coach participation session and will look at drills, skills and games for players aged 4-8 years. Any queries regarding this course, please contact Kevin Kelly directly on 07920528794. Everyone is welcome to this free course.

New Foundation GAA Course @ Desertmartin – Friday 17th and Saturday 18th April
This will be the final Foundation course of the year. It will cover football, hurling and camogie. If you have coaches within your club who would like to take part on this course send an email to ccollins@derry.gaa.ie or call 07843232208. The price of the course is £25 per person and places are limited. The course will run on Friday night from 7.30pm to 10.00pm and on Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm. Everyone is welcome.

Pure Sport: Practical Sport Psychology Seminar – Thursday 23rd April @ Owenbeg 7.30pm
John Kremer a leading sport psychologist will deliver this coaching seminar. Pure Sport: Practical Sport Psychology explains in everyday language the whys and wherefores of contemporary sport psychology - pinpointing what works and what doesn’t when it comes to performance enhancement. By the end of the seminar coaches should have a number of exercises they will able to take back to the club and deliver with their players to enhance performance. John has co-authored a book with Aidan Moran called Pure Sport. Participants will be able to purchase a copy for the cost price of £10 if they wish to do so.

Foundation Football @ Glack

On Saturday 28th February we held our third foundation course of the year. Glack decided to have one for their own coaches to ensure they were all up to speed. 20 Coaches took part in what was a very enjoyable day. They put on some feed for lunch too!
