St. Patrick's Pennyburn Christmas GAA League

Over 120 pupils from P5 in St Patricks, Pennyburn took part in their schools Christmas Legaue. For the past few weeks each team in a class has been competing against each other to represent their class in the Finals Day. When finals day arrived they all gathered in the one hall to cheer on their own class. In the end after a few extra times Mrs C Doherty's Class came out on top and it was well deserved. They played as a team and showed great skill throughout the league. Included is all the pupils, the winning team and the winning class! Thanks to Derry GPO Shauna McCallion for organising the event in cooperation with Doire Colmcille.

St. Patrick's Pennyburn P.S. Go Games Blitz

Over 120 primary 6 pupils took part in apparently the 'biggest event on the term' at St Patrick's Primary School, Derry.

Two classes at a time came together, four in total, and they played against the other class. This is an event that the children look forward to taking part in and the atmosphere on the day is evident of it as all the children are in high spirits and very eager to get a game. The improvement that the children have made since January is great and their confidence is growing with every game they play and session they take part in. The teachers commented on how much the girls have improved and are giving the boys a run for there money.

A huge number of the pupils are members of the local Doire Colmcille team so they used this opportunity to use their skill and knowledge and pass this on to fellow class mates. The pupils were very well behaved and enthusiastic throughout the whole event. Well done to Derry GPO Shauna McCallion!

Doire Colmcille Summer Camp

More than 50 kids took part in Doire Colmcille's Annual Summer scheme held in St Columbs College, Derry from the 6th to 10th July. The week started bleak with the weather forcing the camp onto gravel for the first day, but as the week progressed the weather got better and the kids were able to get onto the grass and show off their Gaelic skills.

The kids ranged from the age of four right up to the age of fourteen, taking part in Gaelic Games, multi sports and the much loved Rounders. It was a great week for all those involved with club coaches and parents helping out the County coaches. The kids consisted of many of their underage players but the camp also attracted many new players to the club and it is hoped these kids will continue with the club.

The week was ended with a multi-sport sports day which all the children thoroughly enjoyed. At the end of the camp all the kids were presented with club t-shirts and encouraged to return for saturday training. Special word of thanks to all those from Doire Colmcille who helped with the camp and to Shauna McCallion and Teresa McGirr who coordinated the activities.
