Na Magha have recently started a new initiative to attract more kids to the club. The parish league invites ten pupils from each parish in the town i.e 10 from Bunscoil Cholmcille (Steelstown), 10 from St Annes (Rosemount).
On Wednesday the 2nd of March the Primary 6/7 pupils of St Canices Feeny and St Marys Altinure participated in a hurling and camogie day at Claudys fabulous new 3G pitch. Aided by the glorious sunshine the pupils took part in various games. A special thanks to all the teaching staff from both schools. To the children who went home very tired but they really enjoyable this event. Thanks also to Richard Ferris and Emmett Stewart for organising the event.
Attached are photos from the final day of Nazareth House's Christmas League. Each class was split into five teams and competed against each other for four weeks to have a winning team coming out of each class to be their representatives. The two winning teams came together on final day to compete for the title of best class. Mrs McDaid's Class came out on top against Mr McDoal's.
Great skill was on show on the day and hihglighted what the children have learned over the previous term.
Over 120 pupils from P5 in St Patricks, Pennyburn took part in their schools Christmas Legaue. For the past few weeks each team in a class has been competing against each other to represent their class in the Finals Day. When finals day arrived they all gathered in the one hall to cheer on their own class. In the end after a few extra times Mrs C Doherty's Class came out on top and it was well deserved. They played as a team and showed great skill throughout the league. Included is all the pupils, the winning team and the winning class! Thanks to Derry GPO Shauna McCallion for organising the event in cooperation with Doire Colmcille.
Recently schools from Tyrone and Derry took part in an Irish schools hurling GO games blitz. Schools were Gaelscoil na Daroige, Gaelscoil Eadain Mhor, Gaelscoil ui dhoirtaigh and Bunscoil Cholmcille. The day was run by Derry GPO Shauna McCallion in conjunction with Lucinda Mc Ginnis Strabane Active Communities. On the day the children were encouraged to promote the Irish Language and celebrate their culture. All schools hoped it would he a regular event so hopefully we will run an Irish schools day celebrating both hurling and Gaelic Football. Thanks to the teachers who helped out on the day!
Last week over 70 kids from local primary schools took part in a Doire Colmcille go games tournament, schools were St Eithnes and Gaelscoil na Daroige. On the day two coaches from Colmcille helped with the refereeing, many thanks to Ronan Mc Daid and Kevin Brady. For it being the first time all three classes took part in Go Games they played very well and showed great promise.
Over 60 kids took part in the last go games hurling tournament of 2010 in Derry city. Pupils from St Brigids, Hollybush ps and St Therese's came together to take part in the games. Attached are pictures from the Girls Year 8 Derry City Gaelic Football blitz held in OLT on 26th October. Four school attended; St Cecilia's, St Mary's, Thornhill and Holy Cross, Strabane. A great day was had by all and all games were geared towards fun and no scores were kept although the schools had a fair idea who came out on top. Well done to Derry GPO Shauna McCallion for organising and coordinating the event

Primary Five children took part in a fun gaelic games day where all children played simple hand-passing games against the other schools. There were approx 65 children who participated and a fun day was had by all. Special thanks to Cathal Harkin from Steelstown Gaelic club who helped referree on the day.
From the 14th to 16th July, Derry City Council and Derry GAA ran a Gaelic Summer Camp 40 children enjoyed the camp held at the County grounds, Celtic Park
Last week the children from Doire Colmcille enjoyed their summer camp in Celtic Park from 5th - 9th July
100 or so pupils from St Brigids PS, Gaelscoil Eadain Mhor, St Anns P.S, Bunscoil Colmcille and Hollybush PS took part in a league format of games in the morning session before the top two in each section took part in their groups finals.
For the girls final St Brigids P.S, Carnhill came out winners against a very strong Bunscoil Colmcille team, the match actually went into extra time and then into first score was the winner as neither team would give up too easily on the chance to be lift the Roisin McFadden shield.
The boys final, competing for the Peggy Mellon shield, was a very competitve match with boys teams having players from the Na Magha club. It was a hard fought game with some great skill on display and Hollybush P.S came out eventual winners against Bunscoil Colmcille who was represented in both finals.
Presenations were made by Sean Mellon of the Na Magha club who highlighted the importance of children being given the chance to represent their schools and play such a skillful game. Many thanks go to the Na Magha club for all their help on the day with refereeing and presentations. It is hoped that this will now be an annual event.
The kids from St Eithnes P.S took part in an end of year class tournament. All the kids from 3 primary seven classes came out to represent their class and practice all the skills they have learnt over the past term. It was a good day for the kids, each played four matches.
Today Paul Simpson organised year 8 Gaelic Football Blitz at Templemore sports complex. 4 schools / 6 teams played 16 games in the glorious weather.
Over 150 school children recently took part in the first Na Magha Schools Go Games of the year. There were 6 boys teams and five girls teams competing on the day with each team getting approx four or five games each. The day was held to give the children a practice run for the up and coming Na Magha cup being held at the end of June. Many thanks to the Na Magha coaches for helping out on the day. There was a great show of skill by all pupils involved.
St Eithne's Primary School in Derry recently organised a Go Games internal football blitz. Approx 80 pupils from P6 took part in numerous matches and had a great day of football to end their programme. The children have made a great improvement from the start of their programme with Derry GPO Shauna McCallion and a few now attend the local Doire Colmcille club.
