Under 10 Go Games Football

On Saturday a number of Go Games blitz's for Under 10's took place across South Derry and in Derry City. All blitzes were outside due to the good weather. The standard was very high with some great displays of point taking, blocking, passing and fielding. Some photo's are attached.

St Canice Dungiven PS After School coaching in Dungiven Sports Pavilion, some very good players to watch out for in the years to come, too many to name individually but they all have a good sound foundation in the GAA.

Derry Vocational School Under 16 Semi Finals

On Monday 14^th December St. Colm’s Draperstown and St. Mary’s Clady went head to head in the first of the Derry Under 16 Vocational school football semi finals at Glen Maghera.

Conditions were surprisingly good if not a little cold but things warmed up once Barry Cassidy through the ball in between these two strong sides. After a close first half St. Mary’s Clady went in 2-01 to 0-04 getting crucial goals at the right time. St. Colm’s Draperstown came out desperate to make amends for a poor first half by their standards and managed to get in front with only minutes left of normal time went Clady finished a superb move with the ball in the back of the net to tie things up 3-01 to 1-07 at full time.
Extra time was played and it was to be St. Mary’s Clady who kept their composure slightly better to win the game on the narrowest of margins 3-04 to 1-09 and book their place in this year’s Under 16 Vocational Schools Finals.

Doire Colmcille Go Games Feeder Primary School Blitz

Last week over 70 kids from local primary schools took part in a Doire Colmcille go games tournament, schools were St Eithnes and Gaelscoil na Daroige. On the day two coaches from Colmcille helped with the refereeing, many thanks to Ronan Mc Daid and Kevin Brady. For it being the first time all three classes took part in Go Games they played very well and showed great promise.

North Derry Primary School Indoor Football

On Tuesday 19^th October approximately 220 children took part in a Key Stage 2 Gaelic Football blitz organised by Limavady Games Promotion Officer Richard Ferris. The blitz was split between Roe Valley Leisure Centre where 20 teams took part in a total of 64 games and Dungiven Sports Pavilion which had 8 teams competing in 28 games. The event was a huge success with all the children really enjoying a day of football in a fun environment.
Many thanks to the students from St Mary’s Limavady and St. Patrick’s Dungiven who referred the games very well, namely Declan Louge, Conor Mc Closkey, Oran Fleming, Luke Kelly and Sean Hasson and finally to Limavady Borough Council for the use of their excellent indoor facilities.

Sean Dolans School Primary 5 Football Blitz

There was a games day held at Old Library Trust Hall on Friday 15th October 2010 for the Sean Dolans feeder schools. Schools who participated were St Johns, Oakgrove integrated, Rosemount, Gaelscoil Eadain Mhor and Holychild. Approx 120 children participated in a small sided hand-pass game. Special thanks to Joe McKane who helped GPO Ashleen McCaul on the day!

Primary 5 Gaelic Football

Attached photos from Tuesday's P5 blitz in the Backrow hall, Draperstown. Competing schools were St Marys Draperstown, St Columbs Straw, St Eoghans Moneyneena, Altayeskey, and also st Columbs Cullion. Thanks to Diarmuid Scullion for organising the event, Colm Dillon for helping with the refereeing and to Ciaran Meenagh for the use of the hall.

Under 8 Football Complete for 2010

The final Lynco Under 8 Go Games football blitz took place in Owenbeg on Sunday 5th September. 600 children took part in blustery conditions but everyone had a good time and the displays of skill on show were excellent.
Thanks to all the young players for taking part throughout the year, their coaches for spending so much time with the players developing them at training and during the games and to the mummy's and daddy's for being a taxi service and laundrette throughout the year!

Year 8 Vocational School's Football League Final

Today in Owenbeg St. Paul's Kilrea and St. Patrick's & St. Brigid's Claudy competed in the Year 8 vocational schools football decider. The game was extremely entertaining with both teams playing an attacking brand of football. The boys from Claudy just done enough with a late goal to run out winners on a scoreline of 4-09 to 2-14.Well done to everyone involved!

Year 8 Vocational School's Football and Camogie Blitz

On Monday the vocational schools had their year 8 football and camogie blitz's at Owenbeg, the event was extremely well attend with 16 teams taking part in the football and 5 in the camogie competition.

St. Paul's Kilrea and St. Patrick's & St. Brigid's Claudy competed in the A final with St. Paul's coming out on top

The B Final was an all city affair with St. Brigid's Carnhill beating Oakgrove Integrated in a very good final.

Lynco Under 8 Go Games

On Friday night the County's Under 8 footballers all gathered together in Owenbeg to take part in the Lynco Go Games Blitz. 78 teams, approx 750 players took part in a total of 118 games in glorious conditions.

North Derry Primary School Boys Football and Camogie League

On Thursday 14th June Derry GAA organised their North Derry Primary School League blitz for Boys football and Camogie. 20 teams took part in the day of games at Owenbeg.

The 9 aside football was won by St. Canice's Dungiven, 7 aside football went to St. John's Dernaflaw and the 5 aside to Ballykelly P.S.

The 7 aside Camogie was won by St. Canice's Feeny and St. Mary's Gortnaghey won the 5 aside. Well done to everyone that took part

Year 9 Football Coaching Day @ Owenbeg

On Tuesday 18th May 150 Year 9 Secondary School pupils enjoyed a Gaelic Football Coaching and blitz day organised by Chris Collins.

From 10am to 12.30pm the players were treated to a morning of coaching by Tony Scullion, Richard Ferris, Diarmuid Scullion, Ryan Mellon, Paul Rouse and Gary Mallon. The 20 minute sessions focused on SAQ, Core Strength and Conditioning, Kicking Scores, Frontal and Side tackle, The Block and Games to Retain Possession. The players all put in a big effort and got a lot out of the morning

After lunch they all had the chance to practice the skills in a 9 aside football blitz.
