Cross Community Hurling

Today, Wednesday 28^th April, the Ulster Council hosted its annual cross community hurling competition at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown. Teams were made of an amalgamation of year 11 pupils from maintained and controlled Secondary schools in Urban areas. 8 teams in total took part in the competition, 2 of which were from County Derry. The teams came from the Derry city and the Limavady areas respectively. Well done to all the lads who took part, many of whom were playing hurling competitively for the very first time.

Meadowbank Indoor Go Games Football

On Sunday 18th April the Meadowbank Finals Day took place for Under 12 Footballers. This was the 5th Blitz Day, on the Finals Day there were 15 teams who took part. The competition was split between an A section and a B section. Once the group stages were played the results from the semi finals and finals were as follows:

All County Primary School Hurling League

Today in Owenbeg Derry Coaching and Games Committee organised the All County Primary School's Hurling League. 11teams took part in the 7 aside Go Games blitz.

The Hurling league final was contested between St. Eoghan’s Moneyneena and St. Canice Dungiven with St. Canice coming out on top in a very good final. Thanks to everyone for taking part. The standard was very high, it's a testament to all the hard work being done in hurling at the clubs and schools and by the County Coaching staff, in particular Kevin Hinphey and Francis Scullion.

North Derry Primary School Ladies Football League

Today in Owenbeg Derry Coaching and Games Committee organised the North Derry Primary School Ladies Football league. 14 teams took part in the Go Games blitz. St. Mary’s Altinure had two teams in the 7 aside final and the 5 aside section was won by Craigbrack Primary school beating St. Matthew’s Drumsurn in the final game. Thanks to the coaching staff for refereeing the games, the teachers for bringing up the children and doing a fine job with them at their schools and to the girls themselves for making it a great day of football.

Roe Valley O' Cahan's Up and Running

The Roe Valley O’Cahans took part in their first ever hurling blitz on Saturday. The lads played at both under 8 and under 10 level. The team, so far, is made up of players from Magilligan, Limavady and Ballerin. Anyone from the wider Limavady area who wants to join the club and play hurling is more than welcome. We hope to see players from the Faughanvale area come on board before the summer is out. Training takes place at 10.00 am on a Saturday morning at the Wolf Hounds GAA club in Limavady. Lynco Go Games Hurling Festival

On Saturday the 24th April Derry had our first Go Games blitz in Owenbeg. Over 400 children from 13 clubs (9 Derry) took part in blitzes for under 8, under 10 and under 12 hurlers. Many thanks to all the parents and coaches who helped to make the day a huge success. The standard of hurling was very high and the benefits of the indoor hurling programmes was plain to see as the lads were able to hit the ground running on Saturday. A special mention must go to the Roe Valley O’Cahans who took part in their first ever hurling blitz. They entered 2 teams at under- 8 level and 1 at under- 10 (Pictured Above).

After School Gaelic Games in Dungiven

On Thursday after school at St Canice’s Dungiven primary school, Gaelic games was in full flow!

St Canice’s Dungiven primary school teams played St Patrick’s Dungiven year 8s, co-ordinated by Mr Tracey, Mr Mackle and Mr Mc Mullan.

St Canice’s Dungiven girls had a Gaelic football session with Claire Devlin providing the coaching.

Greenhaw Primary School Gaelic Games Fun Day

On Friday the 16th of April the Primary 6 pupils of Greenhaw Primary school participated in a Gaelic fun day. Aided by the glorious sunshine the pupils took part in various games before finishing of their day with a small sided Gaelic blitz. A special thanks Emmett Stewart for coordinating, to the teachers who assisted and to the children who made the day a really enjoyable event.

Primary School Gaelic Football Blitz @ Claudy

On Wednesday the 14th of April Emmett Stewart Derry GPO organised a football blitz for Primary 5's and 6's from St Mary's Altinure, St Colmcilles Claudy and Cumber Claudy decended upon the brand new 3G pitch to test out their football skills. It was a very enjoyable day had by all in the lovely sunshine. A special thanks goes to all the teachers and assisants who helped get the teams organised and ready to play their matches and to the referees who came from St Patricks & St Bridgids college. The children are looking forward to using these fantastic facilities again.

Girls Indoor Primary School Gaelic Football Blitz

Today Diarmuid Scullion organised a Primary 6 Indoor girls Gaelic Football Blitz at Meadowbank Sports Arena. 8 schools took part and 30 matches were played in 2 hours. Thanks to Francis Scullion for assisting with the refereeing and to Peter Donnelly for arranging the venue.
